| DESCRIPTION | Superb, highest quality pair of vintage English cast solid sterling silver candlesticks with octagonal pedestal bases and waisted baluster stems. Although faithful
reproductions of the style fashionable around 1710, a near identical 6 ½" example made by Thomas Folkingham, London 1714 is shown below, the sconces are likely to be a nod towards 20th century
fashion and convenience. Not impossible to have removable sconces before 1735 but unlikely.
Having lived with these sticks next to me for a few weeks I am now of the opinion that the sconces were an optional extra or are later additions so have imaged the sticks mostly without the sconces. |
