DESCRIPTION Superior quality antique English Georgian solid sterling silver jug with a beautifully detailed cast vine and grape decorated handle, fluted body and pedestal foot and a fully gilded interior. Although pieces of this size and form are usually described as milk or cream jugs, the vine decoration here invites the consideration that this may have originally been intended for water. Georgian wines could be unrefined and harsh so a little water would be added to your glassful to take the edges off. A proper water jug could easily add too much so this smaller size was used for greater control.

SILVER STANDARD ·925 sterling silver
CONDITION excellent, no engraving or erasure, about 90mm up one flute on the right side was a pin hole. My guess is the silver was worked a bit thin when creating the high point at this part of the flute followed by some unfortunate rubbing to the exact same spot. Being high up and to the side it did not cause a leak but I have fixed it anyway. You will not be able to see the tiny repair so I needed to mentioned it here
