DESCRIPTION Superb set of six antique English Victorian sterling silver handled Shell pattern table knives with a distinctive crest engraving and fitted with new stainless steel blades. In this example the blades are satin finished taper edged but there is the option of parallel blades and both come in either satin or mirror finishes. Traditional pitch loading so keep out of the hot dishwasher. This listing is for six but there are nine available, 80 each, also available are some carvers.
SILVERSMITH Francis Higgins II
DATE or HALLMARK 1857
ASSAY OFFICE London
WEIGHT in GRAMS 618
LENGTH 258mm
SILVER STANDARD 925 sterling silver
CONDITION excellent, thick silver, just a few minor surface marks, probably the finest examples available to mankind. I am not able to get to my workshop at the moment to give these knives a final clean so you may notice small specks of the silversmith's black polish within the details. This will instantly dissolve away into a cotton bud dipped in an organic solvent. I use isopropyl alcohol because I love the smell but almost anything will work eg. white spirit, lighter fuel, even petrol, just keep the solvent away from the handle/blade joint as it will dissolve the pitch loading too. Alternatively do nothing and it will gradually come away with normal washing.
