DESCRIPTION | Long antique English Georgian punch ladle with a solid sterling silver bowl and baleen handle. The bowl with embossed and engraved rococo decoration and, unusually, a full set of well struck and readable hallmarks. The bowl back is engraved with an original betrothal engraving where "A" is the surname initial of the happy couple and "E" and "M" their first names. So often the handle breaks off in the socket but here the silversmith has ingeniously flattened the lower section of the socket to give it some spring and this has worked well, the handle is perfect and also secure within the socket. |
