| SILVERSMITH | Solomon Hougham. Oddly Solomon has placed an additional mark to the outside of one foot rim. Yes, I am wondering that too. A maker's mark will need to be struck before a piece goes to assay. This is so that the authorities know who to prosecute if the silver is sub-standard. Perhaps this one mark was struck to identify Solomon with a whole parcel of silver and he struck his other marks next to the assay marks after the assay. |
