DESCRIPTION | Wonderfully eccentric pair of antique English early Victorian solid sterling silver chinoiserie decorated salts with star cut blue glass liners, blank rococo cartouches and a chinaman mask terminal to each leg. The chinaman looks western just with an unusual hat and moustache probably because the closest the silversmith had been to China was the willow pattern on his dinner plate. The blue glass liners with star cut bases both fit well and are in excellent condition although one is a bit lighter both in colour and weight and I suspect this lighter one is a custom made replacement. |
