DESCRIPTION | Large, heavy and impressive pair of antique English early Victorian solid sterling silver salts with gadroon decorated top rims, scallop shell capped hoof feet, gilded interiors, chunky blue glass liners and original initial 'R' engraving. They came with en earlier pair of antique English Georgian solid sterling silver salt spoons that are a good match and have the same engraved 'R' so I have included those free of charge. |

CONDITION | silver is excellent, the gilding has some salt spotting. This could be removed by polishing or improved by dipping but I would leave alone. The gilding has the rich, dark mellow colour of old gilding and that could be harmed or even lost by any process to ameliorate the spotting. As we have liners anyway there is no real need to do anything about the salt spots. The spoons are in typical condition for Georgian salts spoons with a some wear and general thinning from cleaning but they are free so .... |
