DESCRIPTION | English Victorian solid sterling silver snuff box with a gilded interior and no engraving or erasure. The applied panel to the back plate below the hinge has had me wondering. If to the top or front then I would expect it to be covering and engraving but at the back, I do not think so. If it was not there the piano hinge would be proud and prone to damage and wear. The applied plate is exactly the correct size to sit the hinge flush to the box so is just an interesting design feature. |
