Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
A unique piece of Irish Georgian silver of exceptionally small proportions. CAVEAT EMPTOR, in my opinion this piece began life as a fine quality christening mug and was converted quite early into a single cup tea pot by the addition of the spout and lid. It had clearly been used as a tea pot for a very long time because before I had this piece cleaned there were heavy tannin deposits internally and the hinge pin was worn. No attempt has been made to disguise the conversion as the original initial engravings to the frontal cartouche are still partially evident just above the spout joint (imaged below). It would be quite easy to lose these engravings and our silversmith could do so should you wish. The image of three tea pots shows large and medium sized tea pots of the same period as well for comparison only and these larger tea pots are not included with this lot. |
