Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
Irish transitional pattern silver dessert spoon with original initials verso. The rib is to the front and the tip turns upwards as in the Hanoverian pattern. This makes the spoon quite uncomfortable to use and could explain why true fiddle tips turn downwards and this pattern never became popular. The initials are engraved verso and so this spoon was intended to be laid at table in the French fashion. There appears to be four bottom placed marks as you would expect, but then there are no shoulders, most unusual on fiddle but fitting for Hanoverian. The drop is also of an extremely unusual form. | ||
