Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
Very stylish Georgian silver salt and probably original blue glass liner. The sides are beautifully pierced with Hoho birds amongst foliage and a crest engraved cartouche. The liner has rim shaped to match the salt and a star cut base.

| OVERALL CONDITION |
Our silversmith has fully restored this item so that it is now good for another 236 years. The work done was to repair some small splits to the delicate piercing and the top rim. Extra silver has also been added to the inside at critical points to prevent future splits. This type of item often fails at the joint between the leg tops and the base rim. Unusually, this example was perfect in this area and no work was required.

MINOR FAULTS |
See above for the silver. The blue glass liner has some rim chips but in my opinion is worth keeping as it still looks good and it is extremely rare to have the original liner. Also an exact copy would be expensive considering the shaped rim.
