Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
Very good Georgian pierced silver salt with ball and claw feet and complete with original liner and a Georgian silver spoon. The salt has a simple engraved initial 'C'. It is extraordinary to find the original blue glass liner present. The liner has a star cut base and side mouldings to match the silver piercing. There is one chip near the top that is completely hidden by the silver rim. The Old English pattern spoon has some original gilt wash to the bowl, an initial engraving and was made in London 1817 by William Eley.

There is some repair work to the base rim where two of the legs join but it has been done very well and does not show from the outside. On the inside of the base rim there is a strengthening blob of silver solder behind the maker's mark.
