Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
A early George III silver sauce boat of oval bellied form, interesting wavy rim, leaf-capped flying scroll handle and sitting upon three shell capped hoof feet. The good, clear hallmarks are to the underside. Also to the base of one side are the initials 'WC' inexplicably engraved upside down and not generally visible. The gauge of silver is very good.

| OVERALL CONDITION |
With this type of boat the tops of the legs invariably push there way into the bowl. The maintenance work required to correct this has, in my opinion, been done some time past. I have provided pictures but the signs are so small and impossible to image accurately.

MINOR FAULTS |
There are two 3mm cuts to the surface (they do not go through) inside the bowl that are shown just before the image of the hallmarks. This is further evidence of the maintenance work described above. The legs are not perfectly straight but do not warrant a trip to our silversmith in my opinion. Should you wish this work carried out then we would do so free of charge.
