DESCRIPTION Typical Georgian silver mote spoon in exceptionally good condition. Long single drop to the bowl back engraved with the original monogram and a diamond point to the stem that although bumped at the very tip is not rubbed or scarred and is almost exactly as it was made. Stem struck once with the makers' mark only which is usual for mote spoons of this period.
SILVERSMITH William & Robert Peaston. This mark of four letters (Grimwade 3275) was always far too big to fit and now after a little rubbing may need some explanation. The mark was struck centrally with the top of the R and all of the lower P missing the stem completely. We now have, from left to right, much of the W, quite rubbed, lower section of the R and top of the right P. The partnership existed from 1756-63 and this ties in well with the style that I had estimated to be circa 1760.
DATE or HALLMARK no mark but certainly 1756-63
