DESCRIPTION High quality antique English Edwardian solid sterling silver bread knife with engraved decoration and a carved ivory handle. Probably intended for use on bread rolls at table rather than the kitchen dwelling farmhouse loaf. The ivory has marked the transition in our homes from burning solid fuels such as wood and coal to central heating and the resulting reduction in ambient humidity by the usual single crack along the tang. This is a one off event and all is stable now. In a well meaning but misguided attempt to save elephants the UK will totally ban the trade in all items that contain over 10% ivory from June 2022. To save this antique from the scrap heap please show your interest before June.
