DESCRIPTION |
Exceptionally good and rare set of Georgian silver Old English Thread & Shell pattern knives.
There are eight table knives and two smaller knives. All presently fitted with used mirror finish stainless steel finger point blades.
Most require re-loading and some handles require some silversmithing. The blades could be used again but new stainless steel blades only cost
around £8 and a further £15 to fit. Below you can see one table knife handle temporarily fitted with available blade shapes.
All blades available in mirror or satin finish. One option would be to take the best six table knives and fit the best dessert handle with a
cheese knife blade. The table knife handle shown below has been fully unloaded (all pitch removed) so that I can weigh the silver and it weighs 31 grams.
This is impressive, much higher than average. I restored a set of a customer's own knives this summer and they weighed only 6 grams of silver each.
This high silver weight indicates high quality in good, unworn condition. |
