DESCRIPTION Attractive and cased pair of Georgian silver gilt Old English pattern serving spoons and matching sugar sifter ladle all later gilded and decorated with hearts, ribbon bows, flowers and a love dove to each bowl. Later decoration probably dates from 1888 when the case was made and inscribed "Presented to J. R. Starkey by the servants at Norwood park 1888". The Starkey family have owned Norwood Park since 1881. Sir John R. Starkey founded the fruit farm when he planted Maythorne Orchard with 40 acres of Bramleys (apples). The current owner, Sir John Starkey, has continued the fruit farming and also revived the Edward Cludd (17thC owner) tradition of providing couples with an excellent location for civil marriages.
