DESCRIPTION |
Fine quality set of eight Georgian silver knives with pitch loaded silver Old English & double Thread pattern handles and solid silver blades crested below an Archbishop's mitre. The pointed blades may have originally been intended for use with fruit but are actually suitable for many purposes. The thick silver handles were recently reloaded with fresh pitch and could be good for another two hundred years if kept out of the dishwasher. Crest probably for Edward Venables-Vernon-Harcourt (10 October 1757 – 5 November 1847) who was Bishop of Carlisle from 1791 to 1807 and then Archbishop of York until his death. |
