| DESCRIPTION | Very good pair of antique English Georgian solid sterling silver Fancy Back Hanoverian pattern table spoons with initial engraving 'S' over 'R*M' to the terminal. In 1755 spoons were laid bowl down towards the table so the engraving is technically to the front. During the late 19th and early 20th century there was a craze for these spoons and many were faked by stamping the bowls of plain, old spoons. The original examples were made with extra silver to the bowls to allow for the pattern whereas the fakes were not, allowing for the pattern to partly show inside the bowl. This pair are 100% genuine George II examples. |
