DESCRIPTION Scarce set of six antique English George II solid sterling silver Hanoverian pattern dessert spoons with long drops to the bowl backs. Some hallmarks are pinched/rubbed/lacking but there are enough present for me to be confident that this is a straight set of six, same maker and date.
Dessert spoons of this period are often worn so thin that they are really of collecting interest only but these are as thick and robust as when they were made and could still be fit for regular use.
SILVERSMITH Ebenezer Coker
DATE or HALLMARK 1741, just enough of the date letters remain for me to be confident of this date
ASSAY OFFICE London
WEIGHT in GRAMS 230
LENGTH 6 ¼", 160mm
SILVER STANDARD ·925 sterling silver
CONDITION exceptionally good for age, no tip wear, couple of micro bowl bumps, minor surface marks commensurate with light use, probable erasures verso. I doubt that most of you will notice the erasures and I am not certain either but I suspect a very light engraving has been expertly erased although it could just be table rub. These spoons were intended to be laid at table bowls down to keep them clean but for many years now the fashion has been for bowls up hence possible light table rub to the prime engraving zone.
