INDEX ALL SILVER
DESCRIPTION Scarce set of three pitch loaded leaf capped reed decorated silver handled table knives with old steel scimitar blades marked by the cutlers 'Bussell'. Each handle engraved to one side with a coronet above initials above a crest. These blades were out of fashion by 1835 so I expect they were made to replace or add to a set from the mid-18th century although this handle shape works with most flatware patterns and is comfortable to use. The old steel is still good so I have not replaced the blades.
SILVERSMITH William Sansom
DATE or HALLMARK 1835-41, marks rubbed
ASSAY OFFICE Sheffield, marks rubbed
WEIGHT in GRAMS total 275
LENGTH 10 ½", 267mm
SILVER STANDARD .925 sterling silver
CONDITION some surface marks, bumps and old repairs (silver only, no lead) to the handles. All blades are firm within their handles but this is old pitch so I make no guarantee about their future working life before a re-load is required. Some rubbing through of the silver high points but all is firm. To prolong working life avoid immersion of the handles in water and certainly keep them out of a dishwasher.
