Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
Six Georgian Scottish silver teaspoons, initial engraved and numbered 1-6. The numbering goes back to an old tradition that required guests at a tea party to wait until their host has finished before taking a refill. The numbers allowed you identify your own cup and saucer on a crowded tea table. This tradition lingered much longer in Scotland than in the rest of Britain. |
