DESCRIPTION Pair of antique English Georgian solid sterling silver cauldron salts of standard size and form with rope twist decorated top rims and step capped hoof feet. Surprisingly good hallmarks and traces of the original initial engraving to underside of bottoms.
SILVERSMITH David Hennell I
DATE or HALLMARK 1746
ASSAY OFFICE London
WEIGHT in GRAMS total 117
WIDTH 2 ½", 68mm
SILVER STANDARD ·925 sterling silver
CONDITION fair used, plenty of little bumps and bottoms thinner than they once were and decoration softened by cleaning. Foot impression within bowls with one having split the bowl and been solder repaired with a thin line of silver solder to the impression. Bowl impressions have been eased back out at some point so now relatively good. Perhaps not worth the investment of new internal gilding or bespoke liners but with a pair of cheap generic blue glass liners from the internet you will have a useful pair of 1746 silver salts for almost no money.
