DESCRIPTION | Magnificent antique English early Victorian solid sterling silver mustard pot with a gilded lid, pierced thumb piece, mustard ladle and original blue glass liner. The body is decorated with extraordinary engraved landscapes featuring castles, lakes and trees. The blue glass liner has the flat, highly polished surface of very old glass and a top rim cut-out to accept the ladle. The silver ladle is associated and has a monogram engraving. |
SILVERSMITH | Joseph Angell I & Joseph Angell II, father & son and Joseph I's brother John's third son Walter was a silver-plate engraver made free in 1850. Pure speculation but could this spectacular engraving be the work of the young Walter wanting to impress his family? |
