Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
A colonial Indian silver caster of heavy gauge. The style would usually date this piece to 1790-1810 but it is not English. Silversmiths travelling from England and in particular, Scotland, took the styles that they were familiar with them when they went to work in India and so older styles persisted. I would generally call this a spice or pepper caster, however, this one is clearly engraved 'SALT'. |
