INDEX | ALL SILVER |
DESCRIPTION | High quality and large antique English Georgian solid sterling silver master caster with no engraving or erasure and correctly hallmarked with beautifully well struck and preserved marks to the base and top. Often seen as a trio with the master flanked by a pair of matching but smaller casters, so if you have a pair of 5" 1750s Samuel Wood's then this is the one that you are missing. |
SILVERSMITH | Samuel Wood, the middle silversmith in a continuous line of specialist caster makers beginning with Charles Adam apprenticed to Francis Archbold 1682, Thomas Bamford apprenticed to Charles Adam 1703, Samuel Wood apprenticed to Thomas Bamford 1721, Jabez Daniell apprenticed to Samuel Wood 1739, Robert Piercy apprenticed to Samuel Wood 1750. The list probably extends forwards and backwards but you will have the idea by now. |
