Silfren and The Bedford Gallery
DESCRIPTION |
Large continental silver tobacco pebble with embossed decoration and a gilded interior. Imported through Sheffield in 1899 by Samuel Boyce Landeck. Marked for sterling to the base and lid and with three more marks to the base. The mark like an eagle does not show on the inside as the others do and so this is most likely an original mark as the silversmith has been able to remove the internal indentation. All the other marks including the crowned R show on the inside so must have been struck after this pebble left the silversmith. |
